CREATIVE THINKING
We asked our creatives where they do their best thinking...
...and got the expected results, plus a few surprises.
Anyone who knows Dunk, our Senior Digital Designer, won't be in the least bit surprised to discover "on the bog" came his eloquent retort. Sooooo predictable. And yet, the science kinda backs it up... Apparently being distracted from the thought process helps the brain find clarity,
and from clarity comes inspiration. Whether you buy that or not, it's good to hear Dunk does his thinking in the loo and saves his daydreaming for the office!
We found distraction (not to mention booze!) was a recurring theme in the other answers too...
Our Green Champion Hannah has her best planet-saving ideas whilst relaxing in a nice bubble bath. So perhaps being distracted isn't the magic bullet? Being fully relaxed and allowing the mind to wander far
and wide also plays an important part.
Claire, our Senior Graphic Designer, dons the old thinking cap during regular tea-making missions to the kitchen. Apparently no-one else in the studio ever makes a cuppa! A biscuit or two doesn't do any harm either according to Claire. Must be what they mean by feeding your creativity!
A common (and slightly worrying) response was driving, although I'll cast no aspersions about due care and attention. And my sources should probably remain anonymous in case the feds are monitoring this site!
Neil, our MD, strikes creative gold while cycling to/from the office. He says it's the only time he's incommunicado and therefore hassle-free! Which reminds me, I must get him one of those bluetooth headsets for his birthday.
Lindsay and Emma both keep a note pad by their beds, as many of their best musings are telegraphed from the land of nod. A note pad by the bed, why didn't I think of that? If I could remember even half the killer ideas I've had while caught in that shady netherworld between restlessness and sleep, I'd be writing this blog from my own private tropical island!
And finally, Will. He alleges the fresh air of the golf course is his best source of inspiration, but having seen him hack his way round from lake to bunker to some poor unsuspecting bloke's buggy, I'm amazed to hear this tortuous pursuit actually cleanses his mind and let's the good stuff flow!
He actually plays off scratch (and I can barely swing the stick) so I should probably shut up now.
Reflecting over a large glass of wine or pint of beer featured heavily too, which just goes to prove, all work and no play can stifle even the most fertile minds. And we clearly don't have that problem!
