WII ARE THE CHAMPIONS!
So White Space were invited to enter a team into the Wii Olympics
hosted by AV Unit at Milsoms last night.
There were 15 teams in total, of varying degrees of inability, and the aim was to raise as much money as possible for the Red Cross Japanese Tsunami appeal.
Team White Space got off to a slightly shaky start, but were sitting pretty
in 3rd position after the first few rounds. Then we really stepped on the
gas, with a stand out performance from Charlotte in the Vault (9.9 out of a possible 10!), a monstrous Long Jump from Will and a massive toss from Dunk in the Hammer {insert joke here}...
Pete gets a special mention for what would've been a truly spectacular Colin Jackson-style performance in the 110m Hurdles, if only he hadn't fallen, quite literally, at the last hurdle! A thoroughly dejected Pete commented, "What can I say... I'm a cliché!"
So after squandering a healthy 8-point lead, we suddenly found ourselves neck-a-neck with Archant on 103 points with just 2 rounds to go...
After a short respite in the Olympic Village (apparently the athletes needed to take on some vital fluids!), it was back into the arena for Pete's infamous encounter with the final hurdle and Charlotte's last ditch attempt to propel us to the top of the leaderboard on the Trampoline.
You could cut the tension with a Wii Knife®...
Dunk and Charlotte had been doing the rounds trying to psyche out the competition, and reported back that the ringers Archant had brought in had finally run out of go's. And so it was, as we waited with baited breath for the final scores to filter through...
In Bronze medal position...
Kyrene Marketing
And the Silver goes to...
Archant
After a brief pause, during which Mark pointed out that we might have come 4th, it was revealed that we'd stormed through to clinch victory by one whole point!
Olympic Gold was ours! Not to mention local bragging rights.
I feel I should also mention our MD Neil, who'd been drafted into the Institute of Directors (IoD) team, and had given us a firm assurance that if it came to the crunch, he'd deliberately throw it so White Space could come out on top. However, having seen some of his field events, I'd be amazed if he could throw a balled up sock let alone the whole tournament!
The IoD team eventually rallied to finish 3rd last, after a series of dismal performances saw them languishing rank bottom for most of the evening. Hard luck.
So it's Olympic Gold for White Space today and maybe an Oscar next week! (see Green News)
A few more pictures from the night can be found on our Facebook page, which just leaves me to thank AV Unit for a superb evening that was thoroughly enjoyed by all! And especially by us, White Space, the glorious champions, numero uno... did I mention we won the Gold?
Well done to all the teams who took part for making it such a memorable evening!
