SPRAY IT. SAVE IT. SPEND IT.
Our Green Champion Hannah made us volunteer for the Climate Week mini-challenge (she gives a wicked Chinese burn!), so Shaun, Charlotte, Hannah and I found ourselves with just 1 hour to come up with a green scheme to "save money or make money" - could they have been more vague?
After a mini brainstorming session we settled upon a carbon reduction idea, which would involve a local high school saving money from their energy bill that could then be invested in a veggie patch or new sports kit.
We'd supply a starter kit consisting of a step-by-step guide and some Banksy-inspired stencils, which the students could use to spray green reminders around the school, i.e. switch off the lights, close windows and doors, use recycle bins etc. We'd also encourage them to create their own stencils, to really make the scheme their own (using sustainable materials of course!).
Our self-sustaining scheme would offer direct benefits to the school in the shape of a veggie patch (which could supply the school cafeteria - healthy food with 0 food miles) and new sports equipment - so it's win-win all round...
Healthy planet, healthy kids!
Our entry (pictured right, expertly designed by our apprentice Charlotte) is now in the hands of the judges, so we'll let you know how we do!
Update: We just found out our entry made it to the finals, so a big well-done to the green team! Read more about the other finalists and the winning entry from London Borough of Lewisham.
